Notes from the Road
tue 4:32 am
durham, north carolina
tonight was really interesting. this may sound familiar, as i've already written many of my friends and told them this story. it was a
real faith building night. basically in the middle of the day today, we found out that our bus, that had gone back to atlanta to drop
off don while we had a few days here, had gotten towed from behind don's studio where it was parked. in order to do that, they had to
break the lock and remove the trailer on the back. they also had to remove the back axle of the bus to tow it. basically after much
hassle (and 5 hours late) they got on the road to come back to durham. while they were on the road, the trailer with our gear in it
disconnected from the bus. wait, there's more. when they finally got a hold of it, and had to get a new trailer, the new trailer blew a
tire. so they fixed that, but they got here about 2 1/2 hours after we were supposed to start playing. the room was small and packed, so
we just borrowed guitars from local guys and gathered everyone up really close, and played the whole thing from in front of the stage,
totally acoustic. the response was incredible though. we've been continually blown away by the hospitality here in north carolina. we
decided to try and get back out here in the next few weeks and do a full on show to make up for the whole thing, which is fine with us
since we love it so much out here. God had a plan, but it was really hard to figure out for a while there. todd reminded me though, that
God doesn't even ask us to understand. it's just in our natures. God is so gracious on us.
one thing that happened today that is really worth mentioning, is that i finally got to meet louie giglio. what a man of God. i've
enjoyed his speaking for so long, and he spoke where we were tonight. we are playing for an event called 'passion '97,' where louie will
be speaking as well, along with dave busby, john piper, and music by dennis jernigan, and sam perry (who is incredible). it's basically
a conference for college students from all around the nation. it will be a time of unity, of prayer, of worship, and of revival. we're
so honored to have been included in what i'm sure will go on to be a legendary event. it will be in austin, texas, on january 1-4, 1997.
you might visit their page on the net: http://www.passionnow.org please see what you can do about coming to and getting involved with
this incredible event. i'm sure that i'll talk more about it later. we're traveling to boone, north carolina tomorrow morning, so i'll
talk to you next from there. thanks for reading and for your prayers.
take care-
derek
